On Thursday, 9 April 2026, the Australian Iranian Society of Victoria (AISOV) held the ancient Nowruz ceremony for the sixth consecutive year at Queen’s Hall in the Victorian Parliament.
The event provided a wonderful opportunity for the community to come together. Members of the Iranian-Australian community, social activists, multicultural community organisations and representatives from across the political spectrum joined in a warm and friendly atmosphere, engaging in meaningful conversations and moments of solidarity.
The presence of respected government ministers, members of parliament from Federal and State governments and other key decision-makers added special significance to the event. Alongside honouring Nowruz, the event created space to discuss ways to strengthen unity and mutual support within our community and beyond.
At the same time, the overall atmosphere and even the music were not untouched by what is happening in Iran these days. There were quiet moments of reflection and remembrance, honouring the innocent lives lost due the violation of human rights by the current regime in the pursuit of freedom and human dignity, and paying tribute to the sacrifices made along this path.
Centred on the themes of resilience and solidarity, the day served as a powerful reminder that even in the hardest times, when we stand together, we can remain hopeful, stand firm, and continue moving forward toward our highest human ideals.

Reaffirming Our Core Purpose
to network within our community and beyond to promote basic human rights and preserve equality, dignity, and respect for all humankind. We are, and will remain, apolitical and non-religious. We do not endorse any political party, faction, or religious institution. Our advocacy is grounded solely in universal human rights and the protection of every person’s inherent dignity in particular in Iran and here in Australia.
Solidarity with the People of Iran
In light of the ongoing recent events in Iran, AISOV stands with the people of Iran — women and men, young and old, of all faiths or none — who seek freedom, equality, justice, and safety. We condemn all breaches of human rights and acts of intimidation or violence against peaceful protesters, journalists, human rights defenders, and vulnerable communities. Our solidarity does not align us with any political or religious group; it aligns us with the universal, non-negotiable rights of every human being.
A Call to Peaceful, Lawful Action
- To our fellow community members in Victoria and beyond, we urge you to:
- Stand in peaceful solidarity with those in Iran advocating for their fundamental freedoms.
- Speak out, share credible information, and amplify the voices of Iranians calling for dignity and justice.
- Participate in lawful, non-violent advocacy and community education efforts that promote human rights to which you are aligned.
- Support reputable, non-partisan humanitarian and human rights organisations assisting /supporting those activities fighting tyranny.
