Supporting Iranian Women

Each year, the Victorian Honour Roll of Women recognises women who have demonstrated remarkable leadership and excellence in their field of expertise, interest, endeavour, or through their commitment to the community.

“ The Victorian Honor Roll of Women 2022 for Leading through disaster Awarded to Sahar Gholizadeh ”
Sahar Gholizadeh is a registered nurse with a background in community health and education. Sahar is the voluntary President of the Australian Iranian Society of Victoria. She utilises technology and social media to forge strong community connections and provide essential information on health issues and services to the Australian Iranian community, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sahar touched and enriched the lives of many Iranian and Farsi speakers during the pandemic, particularly those who were vulnerable or less able to help themselves during that time. Sahar’s volunteer activities varied from reaching out to senior citizens, women and kids who were being affected by family violence, to temporary and student visa holders and asylum seekers. Sahar also supported people who lost their jobs, their businesses, or lost a family member due to Covid, referring each individual to exceptional services and organizations. Today, Sahar is supporting Iranian women who are fighting for their own liberties. Sahar dedicates this award to the brave Mahsa Amini.

Cancellation of Mehrgan

Mehrgan is an event to remind people of kindness and unity.
For a long time, Iranians believed that on this day, Kaveh Ahangar defeated Dahhak and Fereydon overcame Azhi Dahhak.

“The Iranian Association of Victoria announces the cancellation of the Mehrgan celebration while sympathizing with our people in IRAN. ”
